In the last few weeks, a popular application known as Overlay Zone has released a series of updates to make the software compatible with all of the major poker sites. These updates were specific for tracking tournaments on Full Tilt Poker and the CEREUS Network. Overlay Zone is a widget program that runs in your system tray icon.
Any time there is a tournament on an online poker site with a guaranteed prize pool, there's an opportunity for an overlay. If the prize money collected from the players who sign up does not cover the guarantee, the poker site adds funds. Whenever an overlay exists, players who participate are getting free money.
For now, Overlay Zone is a free table selection software. Installation is very pain-free and takes only a few seconds. Once the program is running, you can minimize it to your task tray and it can be spotted by a yellow "Z" icon next to your clock in Windows. The application runs in the background and waits for information from the Overlay Zone server, which collects all of the tournament information from the participating poker rooms. When an overlay exists according to the filters you've set up, you'll receive a subtle notification. The program is guaranteed to have no spyware or malware attached to the installation.
There's a set of controls for the filters that allow Overlay Zone to provide notices when an overlay is likely in a tournament. The filter is suggested to have an alert timing setting of one minute to make sure that you know for sure that an overlay will exist. There's a button to assume Full Tilt Poker's late registration system will be in place as well. There's a minimum overlay percentage figure, as many players will not want to participate if there is just as 2% overlay, but will participate if it's 30%. There are drop-down boxes to select minimum prize, minimum buy-in, and maximum buy-in. Finally, there are radio checkboxes to select game types such as Hold'em, Omaha, Razz, Stud, and Mixed Games as well as game types such as Turbo, No Limit, Pot Limit, and Limit.
There is an eye-opening report on the Overlay Zone website that shows all of the overlays that exist on the major poker rooms. For example, during the week of August 16th, there were 151 tournaments that had a total overlay of $159,781. In May, PokerStars’ total overlay was slightly over $600,000. Free money floating out there for players to take advantage of is a huge way for people to increase their ROIs. Given the opportunities to take advantage of what is estimated to be $3 million in overlays during the course of a year, players have ample incentive to use Overlay Zone for free.
